What resin injection in Brisbane actually involves

The study, by Buzzi, Fityus and Sloan in the Canadian Geotechnical Journal, asks whether the method can lift a structure too far. Injection usually takes place in soil that has settled and dried out, so when that soil is wetted again it can swell under the levelled foundation and lift the structure too far. The authors injected resin in the field, followed how it spread through the soil, and ran large-scale swelling tests. We have read the abstract only, not the paper, so this page repeats the abstract's conclusions and no more.

What it does not fix

Levelling does nothing about why the ground moved. CSIRO says cracking from erosion or local shear usually continues until the original cause is remedied, and it lists leaking pipes, saturation, tree roots and clay's swelling and shrinking among the causes. How the method compares with digging-based underpinning is for the provider's engineer to explain; the sources we have read do not compare them.

In Queensland, building work above A$3,300, materials included, needs a QBCC licence, and QBCC publishes no licence class called resin injection. Which class covers the method is not established on this site, so ask the provider which licence they hold and what it covers.

No. CSIRO says that where movement comes from a water service or drainage failure, the remedy is to repair the failure, and resin under a footing leaves the source where it was.
