Underpinning in Murarrie
In our samples, Murarrie is the only one of the seven suburbs where Queensland's geological survey maps made ground: at one of five points it records man-made deposits associated with landfill or mining, and no single unit covers more than two of the five. Council maps a river and a creek flood planning area over modest parts of the suburb.

Underpinning around Murarrie
Two points came back as the Tingalpa Formation, siltstone, shale and thin coal seams of Late Triassic age. One came back as Holocene coastal-plain deposit, one as flood-plain alluvium, and one, on the northern side, as an Anthropocene deposit of gravel, sand and silt that the survey associates with landfill or mining: tailings, dumps and rehabilitated areas. No unit dominates.
Made ground is the part of Murarrie worth a question, and only a block's own history can answer it. The survey cannot say whether any house stands on the mapped deposit or beside it. CSIRO's guide says settlement in granular soil and imported fill usually shows as a house is first loaded and is normally the builder's concern. Ask what was on the block before the house.
Permits and Brisbane City Council rules
Both the Brisbane River flood planning area and the creek and waterway flood planning area touch Murarrie, each over a modest part of it, along with a small pocket of landslide mapping. Council says overlays can change how much digging is allowed without planning approval, and that more than one vertical metre for a building or structure needs building approval through a licensed building certifier.
